Barack Obama, after having been attacked over his Pastor’s past racist remarks, took the opportunity on Tuesday in Philadelphia to expand on his views on race. Big surprise- he’s against racism!
While Obama played the humble presidential hopeful at war with powerful forces arrayed against him, a part he’s been playing to a tee, he failed to make a substantial break with his pastor’s comments. While he did state that many of Reverend Jeremiah Wright Jr.’s were “not only wrong but divisive,” he also stated that he could not distance himself from the controversial pastor. “I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community.” Senator Obama- your pastor is a racist, yes you can!
Obama was correct when he said that the question of race is one that Americans cannot afford to ignore, but he failed to take the next logical step by calling Wright a racist. We don’t need to “dismiss Revered Wright as a crank or demagogue” but after examining the comments made by the man we need to have the courage to call racism racism. For surely if Don Imus is a racist, so is Reverend Wright.
9 out of 10 for effort Obama. Once again you have delivered a wonderfully eloquent speech that just happens to be completely devoid of real substance. At least this speech may succeed in putting another nail in Hillary’s political coffin.
